How to Choose the Best AI Search Optimization Agency for Your Brand in 2026

Learn how to choose the best AI search optimization agency in 2026, with key criteria, evaluation steps, and top picks to improve your brand’s AI visibility.

There isn’t a blanket approach that I can use to tell you what AI search optimization agency will be best for your brand. I can, however, give you a broken down list based on the most relevant and essential criteria to help you make your own decision.

With AI search creating a new discipline of marketing (Answer Engine Optimization, or AEO), it’s easy to see why brands are on the hunt for agencies that have put themselves ahead of the curve by integrating specialized AI search optimization services.

As a marketer, I want to give a word of caution: AEO alone isn’t your golden bullet, and there are a lot of agencies and products guaranteeing success, but success depends on your dedication (and the dedication of the agency you hire or the product you use).

Take into consideration, and be cautious of, how some agencies have just appeared and claim that they completely understand the space. You want to choose an agency that has either been there from the start, ahead of the curve and is honest about the changes we need to make in our strategy.

When it comes to looking for an AI search optimization agency, a little extra caution goes a long way. You don’t want to find yourself paying 10x for a service by an agency that can’t even differentiate from traditional SEO.

Traditional Google SERP on the left side and an LLM response on the right.

AI Search Optimization Agency vs. Traditional SEO Agency: What’s the Difference?

Here’s where the work is actually differentiated between a traditional SEO agency and one that genuinely specializes in AI search:

Traditional SEO AgencyAI Search Optimization Agency
Primary GoalRank higher on Google SERPsBe the source or get featured in the source of AI responses
MetricsOrganic clicks, impressions, CTRShare of citations, AI visibility score, brand mentions and sentiment
Main Strategic FocusesKeywords, backlinks, on-page SEOSchema, semantic relevance, E-E-A-T, on and off-page AEO, features
Content CreatedBlog posts, optimized landing pagesStructured content, FAQ schema, AI-ready Q&A, PR, earned media briefs
ToolsGoogle Search Console, Ahrefs, SemrushGoodie or an AI search specific tool (not general), GA4 for AI attribution

Now, in saying this, there isn’t a complete clear break between where SEO ends and AEO begins. In fact, good AEO requires strong fundamentals (ones that tend to be set up and prepared by SEO). The main differentiating factor to consider is that AEO is layered. It isn’t just your site, but having a strong site, whether it’s your blog, PDPs or landing pages, all remain the foundation of your strategy.

With AEO, though, you’ll have to move off the page and bring in multiple other vertices to be successful.

Word of Caution: If the agency you’re considering can’t draw any clear separation between their standard SEO package and their AEO offering, you might be getting up-charged for the same old thing.

Methodology & Criteria for Finding the Best AI Search Optimization Agency

When evaluating the best agency, I recommend taking an unbiased approach that focuses on your specific use case. Whether you’re looking at an agency that works with brands in the same industry as yourself or you’re looking at an agency with a proven track record of success, these evaluation methods are only one piece of the decision making process.

Firstly, think about where you’re searching for the agency and if they are practicing AEO (Answer Engine Optimization) techniques themselves. You want an agency that can both do the work and prove that they do it by being strong themselves.

The next step is creating an evaluation method. To help in your search I’ve developed a simple five step evaluation process. This is also the process I’ve done to find my own recommendations.

🔎 Step 1: Ask Where They Show Up

Go to ChatGPT or Perplexity and put in a prompt centered around “AI search optimization agency.” If an agency is showing up in those AI results for their own category, there’s your first layer of proof that they know what they’re doing.

📊 Step 2: Ask for Platform-Specific Evidence

AI visibility on ChatGPT looks different from visibility on Perplexity or Google AI Mode. Ask any agency you’re considering how they track and improve citation rates on the specific platforms your audience actually uses, not just in general terms.

⚖️ Step 3: Separate AEO From SEO in Their Proposal

Ask for a breakdown of what’s different in their AEO work versus their standard SEO deliverables. If the two look identical, you’re paying an SEO premium for an SEO service with an AEO label on it.

📈 Step 4: Ask How They Measure Success

If their answer involves organic traffic and keyword rankings, they’re not measuring AI visibility. You want to see citation frequency in AI answers, AI traffic measurement, and share of voice across LLM platforms.

🎯 Step 5: Look for Industry Fit

Ask for case studies in your specific category or a case study that solves a similar problem to yours. Look again at how they measure success and be cautious if they only use traditional metrics.

Omniscient Digital’s approach is built around what they call Surround Sound SEO, getting your brand to appear across every surface where a potential customer might look, from search results to AI answers to third-party comparisons and reviews.

LLMs don’t just pull from your website. They pull from the entire web of information about your brand, and Omniscient builds strategy around that reality.

3. iPullRank

  • Year Founded: 2014
  • Headquarters: New York City, NY

  • Industries Served: Enterprise SaaS, Finance, Publishing, eCommerce

iPullRank built their Relevance Engineering framework to address exactly how LLMs evaluate and extract content. They combine technical site architecture, knowledge graph optimization, and machine learning principles.

For complex enterprise sites with deep technical debt, this kind of foundational work is what makes the difference between content that gets cited and content that doesn’t.

4. Omnius

  • Year Founded: 2021
  • Headquarters: London, UK
  • Team Size: 11-50 employees

Omnius starts with business fundamentals rather than keyword spreadsheets. They build AEO strategy around specific metrics similar to SEO.

They use their own platform to track visibility and combine technical GEO implementation with an understanding of how B2B buyers research through AI platforms.

5. Marcel Digital

Logo of Marcel Digital, one of the leading AI search optimization agencies.
  • Year Founded: 2003
  • Headquarters: Chicago, IL

Marcel Digital has spent years in semantic SEO, which gives them a real head start in AI search. Their approach prioritizes accessibility, site performance, and schema, useful for brands where the site architecture itself is the bottleneck.

If your content is strong but your structured data is a mess, this is the team that works through that layer first.

6. Graphite.io

Logo of Graphite, one of the leading AI search optimization agencies.
  • Year Founded: 2020
  • Headquarters: San Francisco, CA
  • Team Size: 51-200 employees

Graphite specializes in turning existing SEO content systems into AEO frameworks. If you have hundreds of pages built for traditional search, they restructure them to perform in AI answers without starting over.

Their approach layers AI keyword clustering and schema-rich content strategy into what you already have. Practical for brands that don’t want to throw out years of content investment.

7. First Page Sage

Logo of First Page Sage, one of the leading AI search optimization agencies.
  • Year Founded: 2009
  • Headquarters: San Francisco, CA
  • Team Size: 51-200 employees
  • Industries Served: Professional Services, B2B, Healthcare, Legal, Finance

First Page Sage was one of the earliest agencies to offer AEO services. Their focus on executive thought leadership as an AI visibility signal is differentiated. LLMs tend to cite named experts and authoritative voices over anonymous brand content.

For brands in professional services, legal, finance, or healthcare, where a named expert carries real credibility weight in a buyer’s research process, this approach tends to work particularly well.

Questions to Ask an AI Search Optimization Agency Before You Decide

Agency pitches in this space can sound nearly identical. These are the questions that can help differentiate whether someone has a real AI search practice or just updated their deck.

  • Can you show me how you track citation rates in ChatGPT, Perplexity, and Gemini? What tool do you use?
  • Can you walk me through a campaign where you improved a client’s AI visibility, both before and after data?
  • What’s actually different in your AEO deliverables versus your standard SEO work?
  • Which AI platforms does my specific audience use most, and do you have experience optimizing for those specifically?

Where to Go From Here

Changes we’ve seen recently make one thing clear: AI companies are rapidly positioning AI search to become the default. Users can find what they need without a single click, but brands that aren’t being mentioned get left behind.

Whether you partner with a full-service AI search optimization agency or start by running AEO in-house with a platform like Goodie, the important thing is that you start measuring. You can’t close a gap you can’t see.

Curious Where Your Brand Shows Up in AI Answers

An AI search optimization agency, also called an AEO agency or GEO agency, specializes in helping brands show up in AI-generated answers across platforms like ChatGPT, Perplexity, Google AI Overview, and Microsoft Copilot. Where a traditional SEO agency optimizes for keyword rankings, an AI search optimization agency optimizes for citations in those AI answers.

Not exactly; however, they share a foundation. Authoritative content, technical site health, and strong H-E-E-A-T signals matter for both. But AEO focuses on how LLMs extract, evaluate, and cite information specifically. Different content structures, different metrics, different tools.

Ask them to show you citation rate data from a past campaign. Ask which tool they use to track brand mentions in AI answers. If they can’t answer those two things clearly, they’re selling SEO with an AEO label.

At a minimum: citation frequency in AI answers, brand mentions across LLM platforms, AI-referred traffic, and share of voice relative to competitors. If they’re only reporting on organic traffic and keyword rankings, they’re measuring the wrong thing.

Possibly not right away. A platform like Goodie can give your existing team the AI visibility tracking and content guidance they need to take on AEO work in-house. If AI search is a serious growth channel for your brand, a specialist agency tends to accelerate results, but starting with measurement is always the right first step.
